For over forty years, Dufton Scott was known throughout Scotland and beyond for his series of humorous stories and sketches in the north east dialect. These were performed without make up or props. He simply used his voice to gain the effect which he sought. This style transferred well to recordings and broadcasting and via this medium, Scott reached an ever widening audience. Dufton had a newsagent and bookshop business in Inverurie in Aberdeenshire. Nearby was a branch of the Commercial Bank, the manager of which was Scott’s great friend, Tom Morrison. Both were leading members of a local concert party. This cassette features tracks from recordings made by Dufton for the Beltona label in the 1920s and 30s. Some of these combine into one longer track. Additionally, the cassette includes three songs from Tom who also ‘appears’ as the teacher in ‘The Singing Lesson’. |
