Here is something quite unique in the music of Aberdeenshire: a recording of tunes arranged for and played on the melodeon by a man who, at the age of forty-seven, was a late starter. Eighteen years ago, Fred Davidson could not read a note of music. He played everything by ear, reaching eventually a standard of perfection and virtuosity which is the envy of many of his fellow musicians. All
this he achieved through sheer hard work and perseverance and a deal of
encouragement from the great Bill Smith, late Secretary of the Banchory
Strathspey and Reel Society, who persuaded him, despite a natural modesty,
to grasp every opportunity to play in public. So sit back and listen to some rattling good playing, with a natural exhuberance and a great sense of rhythm and style. This
is a super cassette. GEORGE DONALD (Scotland The What) |
